The eSchool® Online Platform

eSchool® Online is a multiple media, web-based application that synchronizes video with highly interactive web content. Based on an application service provider (ASP) model, eSchool® Online is hosted from the Internet backbone. Powerful server functionality and capacity minimize demands on the client.

The eSchool
® Online end-user software consists of an integrated application layer and learning management system.

At the application layer, eSchool
® Online marries video and web content dynamically for narrowband or broadband implementations. Typically, eSchool® Online presents a video narrative with authentic classroom scenarios and situations while the related web content helps the user make meaning of the narrative and apply its lessons to their own classroom context. Assessment exercises are regularly provided throughout eSchool® Online content.

Within the learning management system (LMS), eSchool
® Online provides password authentication to the courseware. In addition, the LMS provides access to downloadable documents such as pdf’s in support of the courseware, access to user journals, presentation of threaded discussion and online help. User and administrative access to standard user activity, performance reports and portfolio assessments are provided to administrators through the LMS.

System Requirements

eSchool® Online is a cross-platform application (Windows and Macintosh) and supports the most modern browsers available. More than 90% of all computers currently using the Internet can access eSchool® Online programs without custom downloads. The application requires no custom client plug-ins and runs native in Macintosh OSX.

eSchool
® Online automatically tests the system compatibility of each user and provides instructions and links for any corrective action required.

Patented Technology

eSchool® Online seeks to protect the proprietary features of its technologies through patents, copyrights, confidentiality agreements and trade secrets, both in the United States and overseas.

The proprietary technology and methods underlying the eSchool
® Online software and corresponding display of the integrated multiple media content is covered under two patents. United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) patent number 6,018,768 and USPTO number 5,778,181 for "Enhanced video programming system and method for incorporating and displaying retrieved integrated internet information systems."

The intellectual property coverage includes systems and methods that enable the automatic delivery of Web addresses and their associated video content during a program. The systems integrate video programming with the vast resources of the Internet by either providing Internet addresses via a separate communications path (e.g., the Internet or other network) from the video signal; or by embedding the Internet addresses in the video programming signal.

Of special note, eSchool
® Online’s software and services have been purchased under sole source designation by our clients. A partial list of these clients includes the California Department of Education, Mississippi Department of Education, Alabama Department of Education, New York City Board of Education, University of Texas System, San Diego County Office of Education, Dallas Independent School System, Houston Independent School System, and others.
