No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)
eSchool® Online professional development programming can be used to fulfill the goals of the NCLB legislation. It can highlight, model, and help teachers apply, research-based teaching methods effective in closing the achievement gap between disadvantaged and minority students and their peers (a key goal of the legislation). Further, since eSchool® Online is customized to the needs of local educational entities, it is consistent with the emphasis on flexibility and local control found in the legislation. In addition, the capturing of teacher responses in the embedded assessments of the modules aids schools, districts, and states in meeting the accountability measures mandated by the legislation.

Title I
The purpose of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. If this purpose is to be fulfilled, teachers will need to engage in sustained, high-quality professional development to learn new methods and approaches effective in helping all students reach the standards. eSchool® Online modules can be used to showcase the most effective school-wide and classroom-based approaches that educators have found to achieving this twin goal of equity and excellence. Since eSchool® Online develops customized content in collaboration with clients, it is guaranteed that it reflects, and builds on, the state standards and assessment approaches of the locality a critical emphasis in the Title I legislation.

Title II
Title II is intended to improve the preparation, training, and recruiting of high-quality teachers and principals. eSchool® Online can work with any of the educational entities eligible for Title II grants (State educational agencies, local education agencies, State agencies for higher education, and others) to create online professional development designed to provide induction or ongoing training to teachers, principals, and assistant principals. The modules could provide a flexible resource to educators accessible anytime, anywhere -- to assist them in learning about research-based methods in education; help them meet State and local standards; and demonstrate mastery of strategies to increase student academic achievement through embedded assessment.

Reading First
eSchool® Online staff can work with educational entities to develop online professional development series for Reading First schools that will be grounded in scientifically-based reading research and will be aligned with the goals of the Reading First program. The modules in the series could showcase research-based practice in reading instruction using local teachers, help users analyze this best practice to understand the theory and rationale for its effectiveness, and apply this understanding to making changes in their own classrooms.

Any professional development delivered in the Reading First program should help users build the essential knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to connect scientifically-based theory on reading instruction to effective classroom practice. The capability of eSchool
® Online to:

  • model best practice in video-based scenarios;
  • highlight research results and demonstrate use of reading instruction and assessment in corresponding web content;
  • assess user’s knowledge of research-based instruction in applying it to his or her own classroom by performing authentic, web-based tasks (e.g., designing lesson plans, using assessment instruments, laying out a scope and sequence); and
  • provide opportunities to share strategies and insights with peers and experts online makes it an ideal vehicle for connecting sound theory to instructional practice.
